EDELAC's preventative aspect is a school for at-risk youth, located in the Las Rosas neighborhood of Quetzaltenango. Since 1997, the school has been attended students between the ages of 5 and 14, all with family problems which can include child abuse, alcoholism, extreme poverty, lack of father figures, and more. The school functions as a prevention program to stop kids from turning to the street, giving academic, health and nutritional education, and valuing children's rights. Currently 200 boys and girls attend.
