The school teaches all pre-elimentary and elementary grade levels, complimenting them with art class, music class, wood shop, tutoring, and leadership and organization lessons based on the concept of children's rights.

The school also organizes cultural events, sports, field trips, research, and environmental protection.

The children's leadership commision: :

Throughout 2009, the school carried out several activities, both internal and external:

  1. A publicity campaign based around children's rights in 10 surrounding communities and 5 local television stations in which children had the opportunity to discuss rights and responsibilities.
  2. Lessons for children on the subjects of social reality, citizenship, civics, leadership and social organization.

Environment:

  1. The following actions where organized in order to help improve the local environment.
  2. Training for students at EDELAC and in nearby schools about environmental protection.
  3. An ecological campaign that consisted of a community clean-up, with the coordination of many mothers and community members.
  4. The planting of more than 500 trees in the mountains near El Baúl in Quetzaltenango.

Parents School:

In this project, the fathers are the social actors of the lessons shared, developing the following subjects: self-esteem, a happy family, problem-solving, controlling agression, values, alcoholism, family communication, and life as a couple.

Early Stimulation:

These workshops happened twice a month, and demonstrated to mothers how they can help the physical, emotional and intellectual growth of their children in the first three years. Topics included: multisensoral development, values, movement, brain functions, language development, and family communication.

Preventative Health Workshops:

Among the discussed topics were: relationships and sexual health, body hygiene, puberty, friendship, and dental hygiene.

Carpentry and Music Workshops:

Marimba lessons have been given twice a week, and as a result, students have done various activities and presentations for public and private institutions. They have earned 9 awards of recognition. In the case of the carpentry workshop, the chidren have made cutting boards, small chests, pencil cases, cooking utensils and more.

Social Work:

The organization has put on trainings on various social topics, both individual and group-based for children and families. Topics have included a personal hygiene social project, the delousing of all the children with the coordination of community leaders, help in social and legal cases, child advocacy, an education project, culture, and other topics coordinated with public and private institutions in Quetzaltenango.

Culture and Sports:

The school has organized activities such as a marathon, soccer games, inter-scholastic sporting events against nearby schools, inter-class sports, and inter-class chess competitions. Cultural activities have included civic activities discussing national symbols, celebration of the Day of Peace, field trips, an inter-culture congress, and a theatre group.

During 10 months of the year in 2008, 4 girls and 2 boys were temporarily housed.

Those who study are the following:
Elementary school: 8 children
Middle school: 8 children

WORK.

These boys and girls are working, but in order to train themselves at the same time. They work with carpentry, tapestry and more on site.

PROJECTS.

During the year, the children take part in several projects: a) making soap, which the children then use themselves in the home; b) raising chickens, which are then incorporated into the children's own diet; c) the majority of the boys and girls learn how to screen and sprint cards, and create almanacs, souvenirs and other printings for future projects.

OTHER ACTIVITIES.

There were other complimentary activities, for fun and for development. Some of these were field trips, camping trips, soccer game, group orientations, and parties inside and outside the home.
